Efficient yet powerful Full Hybrid Electric

S-Max’s new powertrain option combines a highly efficient 2.5-litre Atkinson Cycle Petrol engine with a battery-powered electric motor. The system recaptures energy usually lost while coasting and decelerating and uses it to recharge battery, so there’s no need to plug in to recharge. Since it has a powerful water-cooled battery it also lets you drive short distances on electric power alone. To preserve boot space, the battery is nested under the floor. While achieving CO2 emissions of just 147g/km, the new engine delivers an impressive combined power of 140kw (190PS). As a result, the S-Max Hybrid has a towing capacity of 1750 kg: enough for a small boat, for example.
