As you’d expect, safety is paramount in the Tourneo Custom. There’s a host of technology to protect you, your passengers and the vehicle. And it all contributes to the vehicle’s 5-star rating by Euro NCAP.
Pre-Collision Assist detects slower vehicles in the road ahead, or pedestrians and vehicles that could cross your path, and warns you of their presence. If you don’t respond, the system automatically applies the brakes. This technology is designed to help reduce the severity of accidents, or help avoid them altogether, and functions effectively at speeds of up to 50 mph / 80 km/h (assuming normal road and vehicle conditions).
As proof of its ability to protect you and your passengers, the Tourneo Custom has a 5-star rating by Euro NCAP.
Trailer Sway Control detects ‘snaking’ or trailer sway and reduces your vehicle’s speed to help solve the problem, making towing more controlled. The system slows the vehicle down by reducing the engine’s torque and gradually increasing the brake pressure on all wheels.
An advanced Traction Control System eliminates excessive wheelspin and gives you the best possible grip, performance and stability, just when you need it most. The system constantly monitors and adjusts the power delivered to the vehicle’s individual wheels ensuring maximum contact and grip when you’re accelerating.
Electronic Stability Control constantly monitors your vehicle’s progress. It senses when a vehicle is losing grip and automatically applies a braking pulse to individual wheels, helping to stabilise it. Using advanced sensors from the anti-lock braking and Traction Control System it monitors the behaviour of the vehicle.
Ford’s unique roll-rate sensor helps the Roll Stability Control system to keep the tyres grounded, specifically under conditions where there’s a high centre of gravity and when driving through off-camber turns.
Load Adaptive Control adjusts the Electronic Stability Control, according to the overall weight you’re carrying. This ensures control and stability whether your Tourneo Custom is empty or fully loaded.
Anti-lock braking system (ABS) and electronic brake-force distribution combine to ensure that your braking is effective. Emergency Brake Assist also helps your vehicle achieve maximum braking effectiveness in an emergency situation. It’s controlled automatically via the Electronic Stability Control system, which senses how much pressure you’ve applied to the brake yourself and automatically increases it, if necessary. And if you brake heavily, the emergency brake light system flashes the brake lights to warn other drivers.
The Tourneo Custom features a reassuringly comprehensive array of airbags. These include; a driver airbag as standard, plus optional passenger, head, thorax and side-curtain airbags to offer extra head protection in the event of an upper-side impact.
The Tourneo Custom’s more robust body structure delivers improved crash resistance and stiffness. The increased stiffness also results in significant improvements to the ride and handling and reduces the noise and vibration inside the vehicle.
The Tourneo Custom is designed to help keep young children safe and secure on every journey. It comes with rear ISOFIX child seat attachment points, so you can easily fit two child seats.
If it detects any of your tyres starting to lose pressure during your journey, the Tyre Pressure Monitoring System warns you by lighting up an icon on the instrument panel.
The Tourneo Custom has remote control central door locking, which is more secure than ever. That’s because you can choose to open one individual door while the other doors stay securely locked until you activate a switch on the driver’s door. This same switch controls the locking and unlocking of all the vehicle’s doors.
All door locks are protected by anti-tamper shielding designed to prevent them being broken by force.
A new advanced flip-key fob makes the Tourneo Custom doubly difficult to steal, as the transmitter within it has two channels – which means the key is virtually impossible for a thief to scan or copy. This rechargeable fob is also tamper and water-proof.
The Category 1 alarm system fitted is simply activated when the vehicle is locked. The system monitors the doors and hood and has an interior motion detector. The alarm system also has a trailer tow monitor which senses the presence of a trailer by the electrical socket connection. If the trailer is disconnected the alarm is immediately activated.
