Performance and Efficiency

The New Edge is a fusion of clever design and scrupulous attention to detail. New engines, including the precision-engineered 4-cylinder, 2.0L Ford EcoBlue diesel engine, are paired with a 6-speed manual or 8-speed automatic transmission, with a Rotary Gear Shift Dial. The result: a powerful and efficient SUV with driving dynamics that give you exceptional confidence and command of the road.

A new standard for diesel engines

The new 4-cylinder, 2.0L Ford EcoBlue diesel engine is a highly advanced, turbo-charged engine that delivers measurably improved efficiency, performance and refinement. The new engine can improve fuel efficiency, is more responsive and is also quieter than ever before.

A sophisticated  Rotary Gear Shift Dial

In cars with an automatic transmission, the Rotary Gear Shift Dial replaces the traditional gear lever. This puts you in control of an advanced new automatic transmission, with improved acceleration and super-smooth gear changes. It also gives the interior a much cleaner design and increases space in the cabin. Usefully, when you park your SUV the shifter will automatically set into the parking mode.

A 6-speed manual transmission

The 6-speed manual transmission in Edge has been optimised to make gear selection easier, more precise and quieter. It has been specially engineered to improve driving dynamics and reduce fuel consumption, too, helping to make your drive more exhilarating whilst reducing trips to the petrol station.

Change gears fast, with your fingertips

This racing-inspired technology puts swift, effortless gear changes at your fingertips. And because the Paddle Shifters are mounted on the steering wheel, you can change gear more efficiently when cornering.

Use less fuel with Auto Start-Stop

When you stop at traffic lights or your vehicle is idling in a queue, this technology can automatically switch off the engine. When you're ready to move, just depress the clutch and select first gear as usual, or release the brake on an automatic, and the system restarts. Auto Start-Stop is particularly effective in town and city streets, where it can cut fuel consumption by up to 10%.
