At Ford, we’re heavily involved in motorsport through the FIA World Rally Championship and, of course, Formula Ford. In fact, we’re one of the most successful manufacturers in the history of the WRC.
This year, both our rally car – the Fiesta RS WRC – and Formula Ford vehicles are powered by EcoBoost engines. It’s the same engine technology available in many of our road cars, so we’re particularly proud that it meets motorsport’s high standards, too.
The most important of our motorsport activities is the gruelling FIA World Rally Championship (WRC). The events take place throughout the year, over some of the most challenging terrain around the world, in temperatures ranging from -22 to + 40˚C!
As well as being an exciting, demanding competition, the WRC is an opportunity for us to showcase much of the advanced, intelligent technology that appears on our road cars, including our range of EcoBoost engines.

Formula Ford has the longest and most illustrious pedigree of any single-seater championship in the world. Since its introduction in 1967, it has given thousands of young drivers and technicians unrivalled racing experience and started many successful careers in motor racing. Formula 1 World Champions Jenson Button, James Hunt, Emerson Fittipaldi, Jody Scheckter, Ayrton Senna, Nigel Mansell, Damon Hill, Mika Hakkinen and Michael Schumacher all began in Formula Ford.
From 2012, in a major development for the competition, the Formula Ford car will be the first of its type to meet the demanding FIA (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile) safety standards. Like our road cars, it’s powered by the advanced EcoBoost engine and also features ‘kinetic design’ body styling.
The Ford name is identified with motorsport across four continents and in most countries around the world.
Apart from the excitement of the competition, we’re involved in motorsport because it lets us showcase the true performance capabilities of our cars and technologies in the most testing conditions. Our road car technology has proved itself on some of the world’s most demanding race tracks.
