We recommend using winter tyres when temperatures drop to 7º C or below, because winter tyres contain a special compound that doesn’t get stiff when temperatures drop. In some countries this is even a legal requirement. Please note that winter performance is only guaranteed by tyres with the snowflake symbol on the sidewall.

M+S (mud and snow) tyres are specially designed for driving in mud and snow and have a particularly rough profile to cope with these conditions. M+S doesn’t indicate specific winter performance unless the tyre also has a snowflake symbol.
Versatility for everything a season has to offer.
So-called “all-season tyres” can be used all year round and have a sun, raindrop or leaf symbol on the sidewall. However, tests show that all-season tyres are still unable to match the specific performance of a winter or summer tyre.
Keep you moving safely, even with a loss of air – Run-flat Tyres.
Run-flat Tyres help you to keep going when your tyres loose pressure. They allow you to safely continue driving at a specified maximum speed for a certain distance.
Starting November 2012 all new tyres need to bear the EU tyre label as part of the EU energy efficiency action plan, designed to reduce energy consumption by 20 % until 2020. Ford supports this improvement in customer information.
Characteristics of the EU tyre label.
The label informs on 3 criteria: rolling resistance, wet grip and noise emission in a classification starting from the best performance (green A) to the worst (red G).
Rolling resistance (fuel efficiency)
Low rolling resistance saves fuel and reduces CO2 emission. An improvement of one class equals fuel saving of at least 0.1 l per 100 km. Class D is not occupied.
Wet grip (braking performance)
Wet grip is an important factor for safe driving. The difference in braking distance from best to worst class can sum up to as much as 18 m when driving at 80 km/h. Classes D and G are not occupied.
Tyre noise emission is part of the overall vehicle noise where the pass-by noise made by the tyre is measured. The more bars are filled, the louder the pass-by noise. A continuous sound pressure level above 80 decibel can have an adverse effect on health.

The EU Tyre Label helps you to evaluate qualities that are to be considered when purchasing tyres, but the criteria above should not be forgotten. Tyre tests, the dealer’s recommendation and information provided by the manufacturer are still essential when finding YOUR tyre.

Safer tyres mean safer driving.
Tyres are a key safety feature of your vehicle, e.g. worn tyres could mean that your braking distance could increase by up to 70% on a wet road. The correct tyres, pressures and wear levels ensure that your vehicle performs properly in all conditions.
Keep air pressure at the right level
Having the correct air pressure is vital to the performance of your car. Too little or too much air reduces road contact, wears your tyres out faster, and makes you use more fuel. Check your air pressure every two weeks. Check them when they're cold, as measurements aren't accurate after long journeys at high speed. Always screw the valve cap on tight and replace lost caps immediately, otherwise the valves will begin to leak. Also check valves and valve seals for damage.You should always fill your spare tyre with 0.1 to 0.3 bar extra pressure. However, pressure should never exceed the maximum level for driving with a full load. You can find the correct air pressure levels in your owner's manual.
Check your tyres' tread depth
Wear indicators in the tyre grooves will show you if the tread has reached the legal absolute minimum of 1.6 mm. Summer tyres should be changed when the tread is lower than 3 mm. If the tread on your winter tyres is below 4 mm, they could lose grip when driving on snow.
Make sure your tyres aren’t too old
The general rule is that a tyre lasts 6 years. After this, it should be changed – even if it looks like new and has hardly been used. The age of your tyres can be found on the side wall. It’s a coded production date, e.g. in '0702', '07' indicates week 7 and '02' signifies 2002. Until 31st December, 1999, a '<' appeared after the third digit. If your tyre is that old please change it immediately. This applies to the spare tyre as well.
The right tyre keeps your fuel consumption down.
If your tyres are underinflated you'll use more fuel. Filling your tyres 0.1 to 0.3 bar over the recommended level helps reduce road resistance. However, you should never exceed the maximum pressure recommended for driving with a full load.
