Transit Custom - a state-of-the-art workhorse
The Transit Custom’s technology takes some of the stress out of your working day, simply by making driving less hassle – especially in urban areas. To make life easier still, the cabin functions as a mobile office, with lots of clever stowage areas and a fold-down table, which is ideal for a laptop. And Ford SYNC voice control keeps you in touch (by mobile phone) and entertained, hands-free. Even the driving seat is fully adjustable, as is the new steering wheel, to enable you to find the perfect, most comfortable driving position.
The Transit Custom has several advanced features designed to make driving as close to effortless as possible.
Bollards, bins, low walls… the Rear View Camera shows whatever’s behind you on a screen built into your rear view mirror. Not only can it help you see things you might miss, but it also helps you park, by displaying virtual lines to guide you into the smallest space. For added convenience, it activates automatically when you select reverse gear. The Rear View Camera is available as an option with Lane Keeping Alert. (Optional). (see the Safety and Security page).
Optional Parking Distance Sensors help you judge the distance between your vehicle and obstacles, in front or behind you. When they detect an object, they activate an audible warning that intensifies, the closer you get. The feature is designed to help you park more confidently. (Optional)
At night, when you need to make a tight turn, the Transit Custom helps you with a new cornering light feature (optional). It activates at speeds below 30kph, when the steering wheel is turned or indicators operated. The cornering light, positioned at the top of the headlamp, then turns on automatically to illuminate the appropriate side of the road, helping you see it clearly. That way, it’s easier to carry out the manoeuvre. (Optional)
Cruise Control with Adjustable Speed Limiter helps keep your van within a pre-set speed limit of your choice. It can save you fuel, minimise the chance of you speeding and, like all cruise control systems, maintain your speed for you, so you don’t have to keep thinking about it. (Optional)
Clever design, a crafted interior and cutting edge technology combine to make working life more comfortable, more convenient and more connected for the Transit Custom driver.
With Ford SYNC voice control, you can control your music, and make and take mobile phone calls, hands-free, using simple, intuitive voice commands. For example, if you simply say “Call home”, the system will call your home (assuming ‘Home’ appears in your mobile phone’s contact list). It will even read out loud the text messages sent to your mobile.*
SYNC also enables you to play tracks from a USB or MP3/iPod, or stream music from your mobile, using the same kind of simple voice commands. So you can always keep your hands on the wheel and your eyes on the road.
Another important feature is Emergency Assistance. Provided your mobile phone is connected to SYNC, this technology can use it to help call the emergency services, if it detects you’ve had an accident. (Optional)
The driving seat is fully adjustable, along with the steering wheel, so you can find your ideal driving position. There’s a built-in armrest too, while adjustable lumbar support and heated seats are options. In fact, while providing commercial vehicle standards of durability, the seats are designed to be as comfortable as those you’d find in a car. So whether you use the van for long distance journeys or frequent short trips, you’ll enjoy a more relaxing day in the office chair.
The cab of the Transit Custom has plenty of features to assist you in your working life. If you choose a dual front passenger seat, for example, the centre seat is fitted with a fold-out table which is big enough for a laptop or clipboard. You’ll also benefit from class-leading stowage: a hidden stowage area under the dual front passenger seat, offering 93 litres of space; a concealed compartment in the instrument panel for your mobile phone or MP3/iPod (including a 12 volt socket); a glove box in which you can hang A4 folders; and of course, several handy bottle holders and cup holders.
A wide range of the latest in-car entertainment and information equipment is available, including a top level package of DAB radio, CD, USB port, multi-function display, all-Europe navigation, rear view camera, Ford SYNC and a sophisticated speaker arrangement.
Rain-sensing wipers spring into action the instant they detect moisture on your windscreen, then adjust their speed to deal with whatever the weather throws at you. You can even choose from six sensitivity levels, which determine how much moisture builds up before the wipers clear it. Rain-sensing wipers are available as an option with auto-headlights (see below). (Optional)
The Transit Custom has sensors that detect fading light, and trigger the auto-headlights to turn on, making driving at dusk easier. They also turn on automatically when you enter a tunnel. Auto-headlights are available as an option with rain-sensing wipers (see above). (Optional)
Just press a button and integral heating elements quickly clear the ice or snow, so you don’t have to. (Optional)
This makes it almost impossible to put the wrong fuel in your van, because the wrong nozzle simply won’t fit. And as Ford Easy-Fuel is a capless system, you’ll never have to handle a dirty fuel cap again.
Optional power-foldable mirrors fold inwards at the push of a button, to avoid accidental damage. They’re also heated, to ensure you still get a clear view in freezing temperatures, with side repeaters (indicators). (Optional)
A useful night-driving aid, Auto High Beam temporarily dips your headlights when it detects oncoming traffic or a vehicle ahead, stopping you dazzling other drivers. Then it automatically reverts back to high beam, giving you maximum visibility. Auto High Beam is available as an option with Lane Keeping Alert. (Optional)
