Grand C-MAX driving
Advanced engineering
The new C-MAX range introduces advanced engineering that enhances performance, sustainability and helps lower the cost of ownership.

You can choose from upgraded versions of our acclaimed Duratorq TDCi diesel engines. In addition, our lower CO2 engines are available with advanced transmissions, including a new Durashift six-speed manual gearbox, used for the first time in the new C-MAX line-up, and the PowerShift six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Upgraded Duratorq TDCi diesel engines
The 1.6- and 2.0-litre Duratorq TDCi diesel engines available in the new C-MAX range have been completely updated to deliver improved performance, fuel economy and refinement. Driveability is significantly enhanced with increased responsiveness and plenty of power even at low engine speeds.

The new 1.6-litre Duratorq TDCi is available in 95 PS power ratings. It can deliver extra performance when hard acceleration is required. There's exceptional fuel efficiency achieving fuel economy (urban cycle) of 5.4 litres/100 km* and CO2 emissions of just 119 g/km or Band A in the new C-MAX (5.8 litres/100 km and 129 g/km or Band B in the Grand C-MAX).

If you want to reduce CO2 emissions even further then Auto Start-Stop is perfect for you. When your vehicle is idling at a standstill, the engine automatically shuts down to save fuel consumption. When you want to drive off, the engine immediately restarts. Available on the 1.6TDCi 95PS engine, it reduces CO2 emissions from 119g/km to 114g/km or VRT Band A on C-MAX and on Grand C-MAX from 129g/km to 124g/km or VRT Band B.

The latest 2.0-litre Duratorq TDCi engine brings powerful performance to the C-MAX's diesel line-up, but not at the expense of fuel economy and CO2 emissions. The 140 PS unit delivers more power, a broader spread of torque and improve responsiveness at low engine speeds, while achieving fuel economy (urban cycle) of 6.4 litres/100 km and CO2 emissions of 134 g/km* or Band B in the C-MAX (with manual transmission). In addition, for customers requiring a less powerful automatic vehicle, there's a 115 PS version of the 2.0-litre Duratorq TDCi engine fitted with Ford PowerShift automatic transmission.
New six-speed Ford Durashift manual transmission
The new C-MAX and Grand C-MAX vehicles fitted with 1.6-litre Duratorq TDCi diesel engines are available with a completely new six-speed manual gearbox.

The new Durashift transmission replaces existing five-speed gearboxes with a design that is exceptionally light and compact for its power output. The new transmission is 30% lighter than our other six-speed manual gearbox, while it's the same size and weight as the current five-speed transmission for small cars, despite having the additional ratio and a 50% higher torque capacity.

To reduce fuel consumption further, the new design minimises efficiency losses, such as oil flow within the transmission. It also delivers best-in-class gearshift quality, with utmost precision and economy.

*Note: all CO2 emission figures in g/km and fuel consumption figures are from officially approved tests in accordance with EC Directive 93/116/EC. Fuel economy figures quoted are based on the European Fuel Economy Directive EU 80/1268/EEC and will differ from fuel economy drive cycle results in other regions of the world.
Ford PowerShift dual-clutch automatic transmission
You can also specify the highly efficient PowerShift six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, which is available in a 115 PS version of the latest 2.0-litre Duratorq TDCi diesel.

The smooth and advanced PowerShift transmission is a dual-clutch design that combines the efficiency, optimised gear ratios and driving enjoyment of a manual gearbox with the smoothness and ease of use of an automatic. The transmission is significantly more efficient than conventional automatics, resulting in impressive fuel economy levels and low CO2 emissions. With the 115 PS 2.0 TDCi engine, the C-MAX with Ford PowerShift has a (urban cycle)fuel consumption of 7.1 litres/100 km and a CO2 output of 149 g/km* or Band C.
Active Park Assist
Active Park Assist helps you park in spaces just 1.2 times the length of the car. What’s more, it will actually perform a semi-automatic parallel parking manoeuvre. It uses a series of body-mounted sensors, so the driver only has to press the accelerator, shift gears or brake – the steering is all done for you! Audible warnings and information displayed on the centre console's screen guide the driver until the parking manoeuvre has been successfully completed. (Option)
Blind Spot Information System
This high-tech visual aid is available to help make journeys more relaxing, especially on motorways. As another vehicle enters your blind spot, the system alerts you by illuminating a warning light in each door mirror. (Option, as part of the Easy Drive Pack)
Torque Vectoring Control
Improves stability in tight corners by applying brake force to the inside wheel and transferring power to the outer wheel. Cornering is sure-footed thanks to the increased traction and reduced understeer.
Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) with Traction Assist (TA) and Emergency Brake Assist (EBA)
The state-of-the-art ESP is at the heart of many of the active safety features. It monitors the vehicle’s progress and is always ready to apply effective – and often imperceptible – intervention when required. While the system cannot be overridden, a new reduced assistance mode helps the vehicle in slippery traction situations such as getting the vehicle out of deep snow.

ESP also incorporates TA to eliminate excessive wheel spin and guarantee optimal traction performance and stability. For times when you need to stop quickly, EBA ensures full braking force is available whenever necessary, helping reduce stopping distances in an emergency. And, should you need to brake heavily, the Emergency Brake Warning repeatedly flashes the rear brake lights to alert other drivers.
Subframe mounted suspension
The improved suspension system in the new C-MAX line-up reduces steering friction and advances handling control. The front and rear suspension systems are mounted on the vehicle's subframe, which helps them to deliver optimal performance, composed steering and a thoroughly comfortable ride.
Steering and handling
The rack-and-pinion steering system with hydraulic power assistance provides the best possible steering feedback. To produce enhanced stability, special attention has been given to the tuning of the suspension and steering systems.
Electric Hydraulic Power-Assisted Steering (EHPAS)
The system can easily determine individual driving situations, like country road cruising or parking, and automatically apply the precise level of hydraulic support. As speed increases, less steering assistance is required and EHPAS automatically stiffens the steering for better feedback and road contact. Integral to the steering system, Pull-Drift Compensation minimises the annoying holding effort when driving along roads with a heavy camber, or with a constant side wind. What's more, EPHAS only provides power assistance when required, which can reduce fuel consumption by up to 3% compared to a conventional hydraulic power steering system.
