Engines and technology
The new Mondeo is a more exhilarating drive, thanks to a new line-up of refined, powerful and fuel-efficient engines. Whatever demands you make of the vehicle, there's an ideal engine and transmission combination to match your needs without compromising on driving enjoyment.
New 1.6-litre Duratorq TDCi
Ford Duratorq Diesel engines provide exceptional fuel economy and low CO2 emissions without compromising performance. For example, our new 1.6 ECO 115 PS diesel engine now emits only 114g/km and puts itself into VRT Band A. Our 140 and 160 PS diesel engines, mated to a 6 speed manual transmission emit just 129g/KM putting them firmly into VRT Band B. While our 2.0 140 and 160 PS Powershift models emit just 149g/Km, placing them in VRT Band C.
PowerShift transmission
The advanced PowerShift six-speed, dual-clutch automatic transmission makes driving easier and more fuel-efficient. With PowerShift you can benefit from an improvement of up to 10% in fuel economy when compared to a conventional automatic.
Stage 5 emission standards
Mondeo engines are fully compliant with the new stringent Euro 5 emissions standards resulting in lower emissions and CO2 output.
Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) with Traction Assist (TA) and Emergency Brake Assist (EBA)
Demonstrating our commitment to safety, these features are fitted as standard across the Mondeo series. ESP with TA monitors the rotation of the wheels, as well as the steering wheel angle, yaw angle and sideways movement. If the sensors detect either the front or rear tyres slipping, the onboard computer modifies the engine power and applies the brakes to individual wheels. This provides an enhanced traction control function by reducing engine torque if the wheels spin when you accelerate. Your ability to pull away on slippery roads or loose surfaces is therefore improved with added benefits to your driving safety.

EBA ensures full braking force is available whenever necessary, helping reduce stopping distances in an emergency. And, should you need to brake heavily, the Emergency Brake Warning repeatedly flashes the rear brake lights to alert other drivers (standard on all series).
New Mondeo in Hypnotic
Interactive Vehicle Dynamics Control (IVDC) with Continuous Controlled Damping (CCD)
IVDC delivers notable improvements to handling, stability and braking performance. Each damper is adjusted five times per second to guarantee the best possible occupant comfort and road contact. You can also switch between suspension modes – sport, normal and comfort – as the mood takes you (optional as part of the adaptive cruise control).

CCD works with Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) to reduce stopping distances on rough surfaces when ABS braking is applied.
Subframe mounted suspension
The improved suspension system in the new Mondeo reduces steering friction and advances handling control. The front and rear suspension systems are subframe mounted for optimal performance, superior steering and a thoroughly comfortable ride. The systems achieve high lateral and camber stiffness and, at the same time, fine-tune longitudinal compliance to absorb bumps.
Steering and handling
The rack-and-pinion steering system with hydraulic power assistance provides the best possible steering feedback.

To produce enhanced stability, special attention has been given to the tuning of the suspension and steering systems. A wider track (front track 1,589 mm; rear 1,605 mm) and bush attachment base combine to provide resistance to roll movements.
19” alloy wheels with performance suspension
A superb choice of alloy wheels can further enhance the new Mondeo's dynamic, stylish impression. Top-of-the-range design, 19" Y-spoke alloy wheels are a stunning optional addition to the Titanium Series. Plus, for optimum performance, 19" wheels are combined with stiffer, lowered suspension for improved driving dynamics.
