Kuga Safety & Security
Safety and security
As Kuga has such incredible capabilities, we have equipped it with a comprehensive range of safety features to ensure driver and passenger's safety whether travelling on or off-road.
EuroCap logo
5-star Euro NCAP rating
Kuga has the ability to tackle any terrain or conditions. More importantly, it has the technology and features to do so more safely than any other vehicle in its class. Euro NCAP put Kuga through exhaustive testing before awarding it a class leading combination of five stars for occupant safety, four stars for child safety and three stars for pedestrians.
Intelligent Protection System (IPS)
IPS in Kuga features a comprehensive array of innovative technology that helps enhance driver and passenger protection. A series of sensors are built-in to deploy the appropriate safety systems, such as all-round airbags, in milliseconds.
Passive safety features
Kuga has a rigid safety cage that is built to reduce the effects of impact in case of collision. There are also full-size front and side airbags for the front passenger and driver, plus side curtain airbags both in the front and rear of the vehicle. And to minimise injury to drivers, we have designed our Pedal Intrusion Prevention System (PIPS) and a load-limiting steering column so they collapse away on impact.
ISOFIX child seat attachments
The safety, comfort and protection of your children is paramount. That’s why you’ll find ISOFIX child seat attachments, available as standard, with top tether anchorage, on the outer rear seats of Kuga.
Rigid passenger cabin
Kuga sets new standards of safety in all-wheel drive (AWD) cars. Superb body strength and lightweight impact technology surround a steel safety cage that incorporates side impact door beams and engine compartment cross beams to give extra rigidity.
TÜV allergy and Asthma Society of Ireland
If you, or a member of your family suffer from allergies, you’ll be relieved to know that all the materials we use inside Kuga have been fully tested to meet the stringent anti-allergy requirements of the TÜV TOXPROOF Criteria Catalogue for Vehicle Interiors by the TÜV Produkt and Umwelt GmbH, which is a Germany quality standard, as well as having the ‘seal of approval’ from the Asthma Society of Ireland.
Active safety features
Kuga has an advanced braking system to provide total reassurance, whatever conditions you may face. The Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) constantly monitors feedback from each wheel and applies a braking pulse should there be any momentary loss of grip. Meanwhile, Emergency Brake Assist (EBA) guarantees that extra braking pressure is instantly available in case of emergencies. Anti-lock braking system (ABS) and electronic brake-force distribution (EBD) are also fitted as standard, and these combine to ensure that your braking is more controlled, no matter what’s around the next corner.
Traction control system (TCS)
Our advanced traction control system (standard) is there to ensure maximum contact between each individual tyre and the road when accelerating or decelerating. The system constantly monitors and adjusts the power to individual wheels ensuring maximum grip is achieved with minimum effort on your part.
Rain-sensing wipers
Optional rain-sensing wipers offer six levels of speed. They spring into action automatically at the first drop of rain and increase in speed to deal with whatever the weather can come up with. Aside from the added convenience, it’s one less thing to have to think about. (Standard on Titanium, option on Zetec)
Rear view camera (optional extra – requires Satnav system)
Sometimes when parking, obstacles such as bollards and low walls can be overlooked, which can prove costly. So a screen on the centre console displays the view from the rear of the vehicle, making parking easier and safer.
Tyre Deflation Detection (optional extra)
We believe that potential problems should be tackled before they become real problems. That’s why Tyre Deflation Detection technology is an option across the Kuga range, with sensors that constantly monitor each tyre, and alert you on the instrument panel if there’s a loss of air pressure in the tyre.
Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS)
When you find a car that you love to drive, you want to know it will remain safe and secure when you have to leave it parked anywhere. That’s why we have incorporated so many security features. The first line of defence is the perimeter alarm. Then there are the locks: all high-security, anti-burst and shielded with strengthened mountings. And even if thieves do manage to break in, our patented Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) immobiliser means they won't be going anywhere without a key fob with the right security code.
'FordPower' Starter Button
Starting Kuga is simple. Security-encrypted sensors automatically ready the engine when they detect the key’s unique code. Simply engage the clutch and push the 'FordPower' Starter Button to start your car. Being security-encrypted, means no one else can drive off in your vehicle – even in the unlikely event that they manage to get through the alarm and locks.
FordKeyFree-System
We have made every aspect of driving Kuga as simple and as straightforward as possible. Even getting into your car is effortless. With the optional FordKeyFree-System, sensors detect your uniquely-coded key fob as you walk towards your car, so the doors and tailgate unlock when you pull any handle.
