Stationary, Kuga looks muscular and athletic – it doesn’t disappoint when it’s on the move, either. The 2.0-litre TDCi (140 PS) Duratorq 100 kW engine with 6-speed manual transmission delivers a rewardingly responsive performance and impressive fuel economy. The engine provides high levels of torque at low revs (320 Nm at 2,000 rpm) to overcome any off-road conditions, plus 340 Nm in short bursts to ensure easier and safer overtaking manoeuvres on the road.

Unlike most four-wheel-drive vehicles, Kuga’s intelligent AWD system continuously analyses driving conditions and automatically decides how much power each wheel needs to suit the road or overcome the terrain. The result is best-in-class on-road performance and handling, as well as excellent off-road capability. Our engineers have also tailored every aspect of Kuga’s ride to give class-leading handling, braking and steering performance.

At home anywhere

For all its tough and rugged performance when off-roading, this is a vehicle that is completely at home cruising around urban cityscapes. The wealth of innovative driving technology under Kuga’s rigid shell, means that it has the road holding and manoeuvrability of a smaller town car, combined with the appetite for motorway driving of a large saloon.

Intelligent all-wheel-drive (AWD)

Kuga senses and reacts to every change instantly, whether you are driving on or off-road. Its intelligent system, using proven all-terrain technology, analyses driving conditions and automatically decides how much power each wheel needs to suit every surface. The result is best-in-class on-road performance and handling, plus impressive off-road capability. As Kuga adds more power to the rear wheels only when needed, it saves fuel and reduces impact on the environment (optional extra).

Run flat tyres (optional extra)

Kuga is a delight to drive, whatever the surface. But because of the potential risk of punctures, optional run flat tyres are available. This avoids the need to change a tyre in dangerous places, such as halfway up a mountain or on the hard shoulder of a motorway. Run flat tyres also include the tyre Deflation Detection System (DDS), which monitors tyre pressure on the move and alerts the driver to any potential problem, via the dashboard screen.

Electric Hydraulic Power-Assisted Steering (EHPAS)

EHPAS comes as standard, helping Kuga deliver responsive handling. This speed-sensitive system ensures that the steering becomes lighter at lower speeds for easier manoeuvrability. At higher speeds, there is less power assistance, so you can better ‘feel’ the road, particularly when you are negotiating a twisting road.

Control Blade independent rear suspension

This clever system absorbs both horizontal and vertical rear-wheel movement, and provides passive rear-wheel steering for increased stability around corners. It’s ideal whether you’re following a winding coastal road, or weaving through the city traffic on your way home from work. It has also been proven that Control Blade independent rear suspension is more effective at cushioning impacts than traditional torsion beam suspension.

Electronic Stability Programme (ESP)

The standard ESP detects sudden changes in steering and braking, helping to prevent loss of control of the vehicle. It reacts automatically if needed, modifying power and braking individual wheels.

Traction control system (TCS)

Our advanced traction control system (standard) is there to ensure maximum contact between each individual tyre and the road when accelerating or decelerating. The system constantly monitors and adjusts the power to individual wheels ensuring maximum grip is achieved with minimum effort on your part.
