Ford Again Best Seller As Scrappage Boosts June Car Market
Cork, 1 July 2011 – As the scrappage scheme came to an end, car sales increased by almost one-third in June on the same period last year, with Ford taking the position of the country’s best-selling car brand for the second month in succession. According to statistics from the Society for the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI), total car sales for the month rose by 31.3% to 11,030. Sales year to date are up 14% on 2010.
Ford, with 1,525 cars, or 13.8% market share, was the most popular brand, ahead of VW (12.6%) and Toyota (12.6%). The Ford Focus was the best-selling model in the country, accounting for 1 in every 14 cars sold.

“The market in June received the expected fillip from the final push for scrappage,” says David O’Driscoll, Sales Director, Ford Ireland. “Ford benefited strongly from this, especially with sales of the new Focus and the Fiesta.
“There is a degree of apprehension among distributors and dealers as to how sales will hold up in its absence. Ford is introducing a low rate finance offer from this month and are confident that it will resonate well with buyers."
