Statement from Eddie Murphy, Chairman & Managing Director of Ford Ireland, in relation to CSO figures for May 2009 car market in Ireland

Cork, Thursday, 18 June, 2009
– “Last month showed a smaller decrease on last year than previous months, but there’s no comfort in these figures,” says Eddie Murphy, Chairman and Managing Director, Ford Ireland. ”Demand in May and June 2008 was weak due to the new VRT change. Fact is, we’re facing a fall of 65% for the entire year, to little more than 60,000 units.”

Ford maintained its position as the country’s best-selling car brand for the first 5 months of the year.
